GCYFRG Writing Retreat 2023

We are looking forward to July 2023, gathering diverse members of the GCYFRG in the beautiful Cotswolds for a week of writing at the Fifth Annual GCYFRG International Summer Writing Retreat.

This follows successful GCYFRG writing retreats in 2019 and 2022, two years of virtual writing retreats during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 and our continuing ‘Shut Up and Write’ online sessions.

The retreat is open to researchers of all career stages, whose work engages with any aspect of the geographies of children, youth and families, in the Global South or Global North.

Places are limited. Please complete the expression of interest booking form, and email e.robson@hull.ac.uk by (bursaries) 22nd February 2023 and (all writers) by 14 March 2023.

Please note no payment is required at this stage - we will send payment details afterwards.

PhD students without funds are invited to apply for a bursary-funded place.


COSTS

Academic staff on permanent contracts: £380 (single occupancy room)

PhD student/Early career staff/Academics on precarious/fixed term/part-time contracts: £300 (single occupancy room)

PhD student FOUR Bursary places: £50 (shared rooms)


Costs include four nights of accommodation and most meals (NB this is a self-catered retreat so all participants will be expected to contribute to cooking and clean up, but we promise to make this as fun and fair as possible). Not all rooms are ensuite. Bedlinen and towels provided.


Transport to/from the retreat needs to be arranged and paid for by participants individually, but we will facilitate car/taxi sharing where possible.


Deposits of £100 will be required to secure your place. NB there are limited places at each price so please pay deposits promptly. Details of how to pay the deposit by bank transfer will be shared once applications have been reviewed and places allocated in March 2023.

For successful PhD bursary awardees £50 will be refunded after the retreat. For other participants the deposit is non-refundable.
